    Well, you’d be wrong

    Referenced on the Film Junk Podcast: Episode 961: In a Violent Nature + TIFF 2024 (2024). With such a great cast of actors like Richard Gere, Uma Thurman and Michael Imperioli, you’d think they’d have the star power to create a better film than this.

    Paul Schrader goes for the “experimental” in a film that feels like something a first-year film student would make

    Schrader claims to have been friends with the war protester/filmmaker whose life story this film is based on, but with friends like that, who needs enemies? Richard Gere’s character becomes increasingly unlikable and gradually loses the ability to express himself in words as he rages at everyone around him, mumbling as he descends into darkness.

    In other words, he becomes exactly what Paul Schrader is today

    Do yourself a favor and skip this one, even on streaming; I can’t imagine it would be better if you could pause it and walk out of the room to do more important things than watch this sad excuse for a movie.

In rural Quebec, Ruth Landry (Margo Martindale) is struggling to maintain her maple tree farm while her husband is in a coma.

    The Fargo is strong in this one

    Is looking steal her property on the cheap. Remy Bouchard (Guillaume Cyr) is the frustrated lone security guard at the association warehouse. Mike Byrne (Chris Diamantopoulos) is a low level bagman with a Boston mob family.

    Homage has not been done

    Like that franchise, this could have been a movie or a TV show. It also has the snow, the quirky criminals and small town folks, and even the true/not true story. The actors are led by the greatness of Margo Martindale and the slightly unhinged Chris Diamantopoulos.

    The other issue is the language barrier

    Two things do worry me at the beginning and they do hold it back somewhat. The story is inherently silly and I’m not sure that the Fargo treatment is worthwhile. That does take some getting used to.

    Despite the slow start, the show leaves me wanting more

Saint Ex is supposed to be 30, played by a 41 year old and still ok. Diane Krueger chosen to match Cassal’s age. Does the French film industry lack young actors? So the casting, even though the good actors were bad. The pictures were great, but the scenes on the plane are not realistic!
